Who's That Girl? It's Jess!

New Girl is a FOX television sitcom that airs Tuesdays at 9:00 PM. It is currently still in its first season. The cast stars Zooey Deschanel, Jake Johnson, Max Greenfield, Lamorne Morris, and Hannah Simone. On December 15, 2011, the show was nominated for the Golden Globe Award for Best Television Series. Zooey Deschanel was nominated for the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress. The first season is comprised of 24 episodes (still airing), and it has been confirmed that it will be filmed for a second season on April 9, 2012.
The pilot episode starts by introducing the main character Jess Day (Deschanel), who is quirky, eccentric, and totally adorable. She plans on surprising her boyfriend at their house, but she then catches him cheating on her. She then sets out to move on from her relationship and starts looking for a new place and roomates. Via craigslist she meets her new roommates Nick, Coach, and Schmidt, and moves into their loft with them. The roommates get in many tiffs, but in the end they all love eachother.

Nick (Jake Johnson) is a bartender. He was originally going to be a lawyer, but dropped out of law school just one semester shy of graduating.

Coach (Damon Wayans, Jr.) is a personal trainer, who moves out a after the second episode and is replaced by Winston. Winston (Lamorne Morris) is Nicks old childhood friend, who just moved back from overseas where he was playing professional basketball. He is now a “part-time nanny.”

Schmidt (Max Greenfield) is the womanizer of the apartment. He is sort of the stereotypical frat guy. He thinks very highly of himself and at times comes off a little cocky. Almost every episode he has to put money in the “douchebag jar.” He is always scheming to get closer to Jess's best friend Cece.
Cece (Hannah Simone) is Jess's childhood friend. She is a model with a diva like attitude. Although she doesn't live in the apartment she is over quite often. Later in the season she starts a secret relationship with Schmidt.

New Girl has a very unique take on comedy, they never go for cheap laughs or cliche jokes. The humor is similar to The Office, because the characters are a bit over the top and sort of get themselves in trouble.

When I first started watching the show, I expected Jess and Nick to start dating, but New Girl has avoided the stereotypical cast hookups. For this I am thankful, I like the fact that the roommates stay just friends. I think the main plot would get lost in Jess and Nicks relationship.

I am a hooked on this show,  I never miss an episode! I have even gotten my mom hooked on it. One complaint I have is at times Jess can be a bit over the top making the show seem unreal. But all in all New Girl is written very well.
